From the rear window of his car I could see the large crowd. “We’ve arrived,” he said, and jumped out of the car. I rushed around the white Peugeot and stood beside him. He held out his hand to me, and we walked hand in hand together toward the big tent. As we approached his doorway, two broad, colorful sheets of canvas were spread diagonally on two sides, allowing a sweet-smelling cloud to spread its scent to the surrounding air. Here we stood, Lee and I, at the tent’s entrance, watching the whale on a metal platform.
